About Sakura Japanese Cuisine
On the main street of Urbana, the Japanese restaurant stands like a serene retreat amidst the city’s bustle. Its sleek wooden façade and glowing paper lanterns draw the eye, offering a quiet elegance that contrasts with the rhythm of passing traffic. Step inside, and the noise fades — replaced by the soothing notes of traditional koto music and the subtle aroma of dashi and sesame. The space is artfully minimal: polished wood, soft lighting, and hand-painted scrolls that tell stories of old Japan. Chefs work with quiet precision behind the sushi bar, crafting each dish like a piece of art. It’s more than a restaurant — it’s a moment of stillness and beauty in the heart of Urbana.

We placed a to-go order and had a somewhat mixed experience. I thought the chicken teriyaki had good flavor overall, but I found the portion to be quite small for the price, and the chicken was slightly dry. For the cost, I personally didn’t feel it was worth it. I thought the sushi rolls were very good overall. However, I had a difficult time eating the smoked salmon hand roll because the salmon seemed to have a tough, tendon-like piece running through it that I could not bite through. When I tried to take a bite, the entire chunk of salmon would pull out of the hand roll at once. I felt the salmon could have been trimmed or cut better before being served. I really enjoyed the bento box and thought it had a great variety of items. However, I did not receive tempura dipping sauce with the tempura, which I feel is a must. I also wasn’t a fan of the white rice and asked if I could substitute noodles, but I was told that wasn’t an option. I was surprised to learn that noodles are only available as a full $17 order and cannot be purchased as a side. If the restaurant is looking for ways to improve, I would highly recommend offering a smaller side portion of noodles. I feel this woul

We tried Sakura for the first time the other day, and it didn't disappoint! For it being a random Tuesday afternoon, all the sushi we had tasted fresh and amazing with good variation on flavors. They have some rolls with fun, unique twists I haven't seen at other sushi restaurants. If the other food (ramen, hibachi, poke, etc) is as good as the sushi was, we'll be coming back often!

Great little restaurant. We were warmly greeted as we entered as were asked to grab a seat of our choosing. We sat down and were promptly offered water and they asked to collect our drink order. After looking through the menu we opted for Beef Udon and Bulgogi. We also elected for a couple rolls. It was all excellent. And a place I would definitely return to. The service was very polite and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. Decent portions
